It’s not a utopia, but a simple and practical choice: just bring your own reusable containers from home.
La Spesa Sballata (Unpacked Shopping) was born from the idea of changing our daily habits in order to reduce environmental impact and, together, build a more sustainable community.

La Spesa Sballata (Unpacked Shopping) was born from the idea of changing our daily habits in order to reduce environmental impact and, together, build a more sustainable community.
It is an environmental education and cultural transformation project that aims to eliminate single-use packaging and promote everyday habits that are more respectful of the environment and of our health.
And it’s possible! Shopping using your own reusable containers is allowed thanks to the Climate Decree (L141/2019), in line with the European strategy on plastics (Single-Use Plastics Directive EU 904/2019).
In Fossano, the initiative actively involves shopkeepers, citizens, and associations. Thanks to the collaboration with Spesa Sballata® Varese, ASCOM and ASL CN1, the project complies with HACCP regulations, offering a concrete and immediate solution to reduce single-use packaging waste.
Spesa Sballata® Varese has developed a bridge framework between environmental and food hygiene regulations in Italy, making it possible to shop using reusable containers, including in Fossano

How
How does Unpacked Shopping work?
It’s very simple: bring your reusable containers from home, clean and dry, and ask the shopkeeper to fill them with the food you buy (cheese, meat, fish, cold cuts, ready meals, preserved foods, etc.).
Containers must be suitable for food contact 
and equipped with an airtight lid.
Thanks to collaboration with around,and while supplies last, anyone who chooses to become a volunteer will receive a reusable, ecological, and innovative pizza transport container called the UFO.
Some pilot pizzerias in Fossano already offer the option to use them.
The role

Volunteers act as promoters of the project, part of an active network working for a more sustainable territory and with the opportunity to be protagonists of real change.

For this reason, the project includes the creation and training of a network of volunteers.

To spread the culture of Spesa Sballata, we have launched a communication campaign with dedicated materials and regular updates on our social channels: follow us to stay informed!
At the same time, we promote local community activities to actively involve residents. The goal is to encourage meetings, share experiences, and spread good practices, making every neighbourhood a protagonist of change.
